Studio Dates, Spring 2013

  • January 7: Spring semester lessons begin.
  • January 21: No lessons; MLK day.
  • February 18 and 20: No lessons; Presidents’ Day.
  • March 2: Studio class 3pm-4pm at Ms. Rhodes’ home.
  • March 11-15: No lessons. Spring break.
  • March 18-22: Make up lesson week.
  • March 30: Juries with adjudicator Leann Contessa.  1pm-3pm.  At Queen Creek/Chandler Heights LDS Stake Center Relief Society room (the church building immediately east of Adora Trails). Individual times will be assigned in the week prior to juries.
  • April 5: Paige B’s recital! Held jointly with harpist, Anne B. 7pm.
  • April 15: Registration deadline for ASTACAP.
  • April 19: No lessons; Ms. Rhodes has concert.
  • May 4: Formal Studio recital.  2pm
  • 2pm-3pm at Serenade Assisted Living.
  • May 11: ASTACAP.  Times TBD after registration.
  • May 17: Spring semester lessons end.

 

Recommended Concerts, Spring 2013

All students are asked to attend at least 3 classical concerts a year (about 1 per semester), college level or higher to complete their studio goals for the year.  Here are just a few possibilities.  Several of these are specifically in the east valley (not Tempe/Scottsdale/Phoenix), and many are free.

  • ASU music department calendar here.
  • March 11: Tempe Center for the Arts, 7pm. Internationally renowned violist Hong-Mei Xiao, first prize winner of the Geneva International Music Competition, joins pianist Tannis Gibson for a recital of works by Schumann, Prokofiev and Bliss.  $5 for ages 17 and under. Info here.
  • March 24: Chandler Symphony. Info here.
  • March 30: Symphony of the Southwest.  Info here.
  • April 13: Chandler Symphony chamber series.  Info here.
  • April 19 and 20: EVMCO spring concert, “Then Sings My Soul!”  Ms. Rhodes plays as concertmaster and soloist.  Info here.
  • April 27:  Lang Lang performs at Mesa Arts Center.  Info here.
  • May 5: Chandler Symphony.  Info here.
  • May 21: Ms. Rhodes is performing in an all Brahms chamber music concert at the Higley Performing Arts Center.  This is one of the few chamber music concerts being held this year on our side of town, and one of the few chances to see your teacher get performance anxiety :) Info not yet published online.
